The Story of my painting

As a young person I loved animals, learning about nature and creating artwork. I was encouraged to draw and, from early memories, always identified with being an artist. I progressed to study fundamental skills of the craft of creating including observation and recording accurately.  After completing a Masters in Fine Art at The George Washington University in design I began to explore oil painting as a hobby.

The Art Students League in Arlington, VA provided excellent instruction and structure to an artist's practice.  I continue to be influenced by my earliest teachers who encouraged her to make “a lot of ugly paintings and learn from each one” . They were serious about the craft of making art, but not about themselves.  This sensability became a over riding influence, to both strive for achievement in the medium and foster kindness and gentleness as an individual.  My most cherished seminal work came from this period and I continue to be inspired & influenced by Ted Reed, Tania Karpowitz, and Rachel Collins.

Creating art has had a rooting influence, a safe place tor struggle with problems. It is, in itself, a teacher of my “four Ps”, process, persistence, practice and patience.

As the craft of painting became more natural, the emphasis on exploring the qualities of light and form expressed through an impressionistic lense with vibrant, exaggerated chroma.
